Ireland’s oldest city, Waterford, is our ultimate destination on a trip that takes you from our colourful medieval past to the present.
After departing Cork, we first head for the historic seaside town of Youghal in County Cork. Sitting on the estuary of the River Blackwater, Youghal is steeped in history with many legends associated with Walter Raleigh, Cromwell and the English Monarchy. The town also has a magnificent built heritage with its medieval walls still intact and the oldest Collegiate Church in Ireland (found by St Declan in 450AD!).
Enroute to Waterford your guide will relay tales of Ireland’s Ancient East including many treasures such as Lismore Castle, Druids & Knights, The Suir Valley Railway with plenty of photo opportunities along the way.
Arriving into Waterford we visit the world famous Waterford Crystal Experience where you will see exquisite pieces of crystal created before your very eyes. As you are guided through the House of Waterford Crystal you will discover the art of traditional crystal production with first hand access to all areas. Then it’s onto a historical tour of the city’s Viking Triangle a significant point along Ireland’s Ancient East. You will learn about Waterford’s unique connection with Henry the 8th, Napoleon and Strongbow amongst others.
Departing Waterford at 4.00pm we will arrive back in Cork at approximately 6.00pm.
