The Hawthorn Bar, The Lough, Cork

The Hawthorn Bar

The Hawthorn is a family run Bar for over 50 years and boasts a beautiful Beer Garden offering great views of the Lough, where you can share your meal with the local swans, geese and ducks that nest nearby. This is a great place to relax from the hustle & bustle of city life and is only 20min. walk from city centre (10 min from U.C.C. & St Finbarr’s Cathedral).
Live music on Thurs, Sat. and Sun., as well as the excellent Chinese Restaurant upstairs (1.00pm-11.00pm) makes this a great place to visit any day or night.

This is one of the few pubs in Cork City that is run by the same family for nearly half a century. It was built by the parent’s of the present owner Patrick Coakley in 1961 and over the years it has developed from a local pub to what it is today; one of Cork’s best known Bars and Restaurant with an unparalleled view of the Lough.

The Lough is a famous wildlife sanctuary in the heart of the city. Just two miles from the city centre and a five minute walk from University College Cork home of the famous Boole Library. The bar is perfectly located for having great food, followed by a leisurely walk, studying the wildlife, fishing for specimen carp or just a talk with the locals. No better way to finish off than with a drink in our beer garden.

The Hawthorn also serves morning coffee, has a delicatessen and serves a carvery menu at lunchtime seven days a week. Nearby during the summer months you can watch or join in the twice weekly outdoor Ceili and old time dancing. There is also entertainment in the lounge on Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday nights.
