The Wild Atlantic Way is a BIG route and it has been around for thousands of years, so don’t worry about trying to do it all in one go. It’s going nowhere, so you can dip in and out of different sections at your leisure at any time of the year. And while the seasons, the views and temperatures change, the warmth of the welcome that awaits your return remains constant.
For the south coast section, we recommend a seven night stay, but every itinerary is tailored to your specific requirements and interests. So if there are elements that you don’t like or would like to do more of you tell us and we’ll put it together for you.
This guide itinerary is a Saturday to Saturday option.
Kinsale. Two nights in a 4 star hotel on a B&B basis.
Arrive in the pretty town of Kinsale (just 30 minutes from Cork Airport) with its dramatic forts and winding Medieval streets steeped in history. It is also the jewel in the crown of Ireland’s burgeoning foodie reputation and at the heart of the Gourmet Riviera.
Skibbereen. Two nights in a 3 star hotel on a B&B basis.
Skibbereen, the gateway to West Cork gives you easy access to the immaculate waterside villages of Union Hall, Castletownsend and Baltimore… amongst others.
Kayaking on Lough Hyne (pronounced lock and means lake) is a wonderful treat. As Europe’s only inland saltwater lake, it packs an amazing amount of biodiversity into its relatively small area. Tour is approximately 2 hours.
Cork is one of the top places in Europe for Whale watching. On your chosen day you will get to spend an amazing time on the water where you will travel 7 miles out to sea to meet these amazing creatures.
Bantry. 1 night in a 3 star hotel on a B&B basis.
Then it’s on to the charming town of Bantry for your last night in the country. The town sits at the head of dramatic Bantry Bay, offering you the choice to explore the breathtaking Sheeps Head, Beara or Mizen Head Peninsulas. If long walks are not your thing, you also have Garnish Island and its unique Italianate Gardens and Gougane Barra, with its picturesque lakeside oratory to visit.
Cork. 2 nights in a 3 star hotel on a B&B basis.
Finally, its back to the city of Cork for your final two nights in a central 4 star hotel on a B&B basis. As the regional capital, you have all the usual things you would expect with galleries, historic sites, theatre etc, but we also give you the chance to drive your own boat around the river channels in the city centre. Don’t worry, no experience or special gear is necessary but it does offer a unique perspective on the city.
Prices are based on two adults sharing a twin/double room and are for guide purposes only as rates vary from midweek to weekends.
