Cork – Glanworth
Leaving Cork, you will initially head east out of the city before joining up with the main Dublin Road. (There is a toll of €1.90 on this road). A short distance after the toll bridge, take the turn off for Fermoy and when you get in to Fermoy look for the R512 for Glanworth.
Glanworth – Mitchelstown Caves – Cahir
Continue on through Glanworth to the village of Kildorrery on the N73 which will bring you straight in to the town of Mitchelstown. To locate the caves you do not need to enter the town but continue along the N8. This is the old Dublin road which has now been superseded by a motorway (all sat nav models may not be updated with this new route). The Caves are a few kilometres north of Mitchelstown and are clearly signposted on the N8.
Leaving the caves you can either get back on the N8 and follow it in to Cahir or re-join the motorway and follow the slip route signs for the town.
Cahir – Cashel – (Holy Cross Abbey) – Glen of Aherlow
Leaving Cahir, continue your journey north on the motorway. Cashel is the next big town and is again clearly signposted. As you enter the town, the Rock of Cashel dominates the area and it is easy to navigate your way to the main car parking areas.
Depending on how you are doing for time and your interests further north again is the beautifully restored 13th century Holy Cross Abbey.
Alternatively, head south west of Cashel towards Tipperary Town on the N74. Upon entering Tipperary Town you need to get on to the R664 for the Glen of Aherlow Nature Park which has a picnic area and an abundance of outdoor activities.
Glen of Aherlow – Cork
Retrace your journey back to the N24 (Tipperary – Cahir Road) which is just a couple of kilometres. Turn right for Cahir, where you will pick up the motorway for Cork.
