Ballymaloe Cookery School & Gardens is one of the famous cookery schools in Ireland and is well worth stopping here for a night or two for a romantic break.
There is a lot more here than the cookery school. Ballymaloe House and Gardens are situated in rolling countryside in East Cork near the small village of Shanagarry. The gardens which date back to the 19th century have been carefully restored and have an outstanding formal herb garden with an array of culinary and medicinal plants that is the largest in Ireland. The entire garden is managed organically. All the ‘hungry’ plants receive a generous dose of good farm yard manure early in the spring to set them up for the season.
